Capital Planning - Christiansburg Feasibility Study

Ongoing Projects:

Improvements to the CHS softball and baseball fields are in process. Prioritizing athletic projects will lessen the funds needed for the full renovation in 2022, when the County has additional borrowing capacity for a large project.

August 17, 2018 - The turf field at Christiansburg High School is dedicated.

August 15, 2018 - The expansion at Falling Branch Elementary School opens for students.

October 30, 2017 - The board of supervisors approved a resolution designating funds for athletic field improvements at Christiansburg High School.

October 17, 2017 - The school board approved a letter requesting funds for athetic field improvements for Christiansburg High School. 

October 3, 2017 - The superintendent presented an update for pricing and scheduling for the proposed athletic field improvements at Christiansburg High School.

September 19, 2017 - The superintendent presented an update on planning for the renovations at Christiansburg High School, including movement of the proposed new athletic fields.

August 16, 2017 - Almost 200 people attended a public input session on the Christiansburg school building plans. Audience members were asked to provide input, questions and considerations regarding each phase of the projects. The responses will be compiled and presented to the School Board on September 19.

June 26, 2017 - The School Board authorized a letter to the Board of Supervisors requesting $9.8 million in available funds for the Falling Branch Elementary School expansion project, based on the responses to the construction Request for Proposals. 

June 20, 2017 - The superintendent presented his current plan for capital planning options in Christiansburg, including a phase in of upgrades at Christiansburg High School and a new Northwest-area elementary school. 

May 30, 2017 - A presentation was given to the School Board and Board of Supervisors providing an update on the expansion of Falling Branch Elementary School and cost analysis for other capital projects in Christiansburg.

May 16, 2017 - The School Board authorized a letter to the Board of Supervisors requesting $190,000 in available funds for new playground equipment at Falling Branch Elementary School. 

April 18, 2017 - A presentation was given to the School Board providing a cost analysis for renovation options at Belview Elementary, Christiansburg Elementary, Old Christiansburg Middle and Christiansburg High. 

February 21, 2017 - The School Board approved a design schematic for the expansion at Falling Branch Elementary School. 

February 7, 2017 - The School Board heard an update on design planning for Falling Branch Elementary School. The school board also authorized a letter to the Board of Supervisors requesting $194,000 in available funds to complete the roof replacement on the current Falling Branch Elementary School building. 

January 30, 2017 - At a joint meeting, the School Board and Board of Supervisors discussed the design progress for the Falling Branch Elementary School project. The boards also discussed how to best move forward with potential land acquisition for a new NW-area elementary school. 

On October 5, 2016, a letter was submitted to the Board of Supervisors requesting $554,529 for design and architecture work related to the expansion of Falling Branch Elementary School.

On September 20, 2016, the School Board authorized a letter to the Board of Supervisors asking them to move forward with the acquisition of land for a new northwest-area elementary school in Christiansburg. 

On August 29, 2016, at a joint meeting, the School Board submitted a letter to the Board of Supervisors requesting $10 million in available funding to add an instructional wing at Falling Branch Elementary School. The Board of Supervisors requested that the School Board submit for funding as the project progresses instead of a lump sum. Additionally, the County Administrator presented information regarding capital planning for the County. 

On August 16, 2016, a public input forum was held to gather input on the superintendent's proposed recommendations for priority construction projects.

On May 12, 2016, the school board hosted a public input meeting at Christiansburg High School regarding elementary needs in the Christiansburg area. A presentation was provided by the facilities department and OWPR.  Information was collected about the various considerations for elementary schools in Christiansburg. 

On February 29, 2016, the School Board met with the Board of Supervisors to share the public input gathered regarding the Christiansburg Feasibility Study.

On February 25, 2016, the school board hosted a public input meeting at Christiansburg Elementary School regarding elementary needs in the Christiansburg area. A presentation was provided by the facilities department and OWPR.  Information was collected about the various considerations for elementary schools in Christiansburg.

On November 4, 2014, the school board heard a presentation regarding the Christiansburg Strand Feasibility Study as it effects secondary schools.  This study outlines options for capital improvements specifically at schools in the Christiansburg area.
